Saturday 13th May - walk ***** Newbourne Springs - cloudy start then sunny
and warm.
The breeze from the North continues today and there was a chance of another
foil on the River Stour but I had a pretty full-on session yesterday and
with the tide getting really late I decided to give it a miss today. The
forecast sunshine was slow to arrive so did my exercises indoors today
before packing a picnic lunch and driving the 7 miles to another one of our
favourites, Newbourne Springs, visiting for the first time this year:) The
little car park was fairly full but you get the little Nature Reserve to
yourselves. We set off at two for a circuit through old woodland, a section
of heathland with several crystal-clear streams but the best thing being
the vast array of wild flowers with birds singing in the trees, just
beautiful. We had our lunch at our usual spot at the top of the heath with
lovely views of rolling hills surrounded by bluebells, with new ferns
coming in the red grass:) During lunch the sun came out and the fleeces had
to come off, we were joined briefly by a woodpecker too:) After a top
picnic we returned to the woodland path following the steps down with loads
of primroses, just past their best. We took the path to the village coming
out by the busy Fox pub, then up to the church for a 5-minute rest before
returning to the van and home via Lidl. We then made a yummy curry for tea
before having a well-deserved cuppa and cake with a quick doze:)
